Cytokines

Cytokines are small proteins that act as signaling messengers between cells. They are another major subset of the secretome. They regulate inflammation, immune defense, and tissue regeneration by coordinating how cells grow, differentiate, and repair damage. In skincare, cytokines derived from fibroblasts or other regenerative cells can promote healing, reduce redness, and encourage collagen production.
